The Chemical Society of Nigeria is the major body in Nigeria representing and promoting Chemistry as a science and a profession. The objectives of the Society as stipulated in article 2 of the constitution are as follows:

We are delighted to the website of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (Osun State Chapter). Chemistry plays an important role in our society. In the last century, thousands of chemical products and applications have raised the standard of living of billions of people.

With manipulation of chemical molecules, Chemists have been able to:

• Develop life-saving pharmaceutical and pesticidal products, leading to substantial eradication of deadly diseases.
• Synthesize crop-enhancing agricultural chemicals
• Develop innovative industrial and consumer products (plastics and synthetic fibres) etc.

Unfortunately, in the process of solving visible societal problems through the production, processing and use of chemicals, scientists have somehow created more complex problems. There is a global environmental pollution and natural resource depletion, with accompanying health impacts. Therefore, new ways of thinking are required to meet society’s needs without damaging the environment.

We hope that your stay in this city of Ile-Ife (the cradle of the Yoruba race), Obafemi Awolowo University (the most beautiful campus in Africa), as well as the challenging stimulating scientific work presented at this Conference, will inspire you to new advances in the field of “Chemistry Science”.

Hopefully, the international nature of this meeting will provide bridges that will lead to successful scientific and social relationships between all participants.
